Career Fellowship Program

Brook Farm Veterinary Center recognizes the essential role that qualified, professionally trained team members play in the delivery of optimum pet healthcare. The practice has established a  fellowship for aspiring veterinary professionals, whereby a portion of their education will be sponsored by the practice according to the criteria and stipulations outlined herein. 

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants are considered on a case-by-case basis provided that the annual operating budget allows for fellowship expenses. Individuals interested in a career in veterinary technology must have an aptitude for general science, math, and biology, and demonstrate excellent decision-making and strong communication skills. To this end, the practice enforces the following eligibility criteria: 

  • High school diploma or GED; minimum average GPA of 3.4 
  • 18 years of age or over 
  • Must be of good character and in good standing with the community
  • Background in animal health or demonstrated professional competency (e.g. volunteerism)
  • A passion for animal health and the ability to collaborate with others to achieve optimum healthcare
  • Excellent written, verbal, and observational communication skills
  • Willingness to take on multiple roles within the practice
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Personal traits appropriate for working in veterinary medicine - must be energetic, positive, flexible, patient, organized, and self-motivated
  • Able to commit to ongoing employment after completion of the program
  • Able to pass a background screening and drug test  

Work experience outside of veterinary medicine is welcomed. Current employees must be tenured, full-time, and in excellent standing with the practice. Applicants who are currently enrolled in a veterinary technician program, or have been enrolled within the past 24 months, may not be considered. 

Special Considerations

Special consideration will be given to verified individuals who apply from one or more of the following groups: 

  • Veterans who were honorably discharged
  • Individuals who were formerly incarcerated
  • People who live in a federal empowerment zone
  • People who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) 
  • People who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits
  • People who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Members of historically marginalized or oppressed groups

  • Response to three short essay questions
  • Pass background or reference check
